Michael Kindo, a key player in the 1975 Hockey World Cup winning team, died on Thursday. He was honored with the Arjuna Award. He breathed his last at 3 pm at IGH Hospital in Rourkela. Kindo was one of the hockey players. He was part of the team that won many historic victories. He was called the Iron Gate of Hockey.

Kindo’s journey in international hockey

  • Member of Indian hockey team, gold medalist in 1975 World Cup
  • Bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics
  • 1971 World Cup bronze medal
  • 1973 World Cup silver medal
  • In 1973, Kindo represented the Indian team in all major competitions in the world including Asian Games, Asia Cup, Commonwealth Games.

Was a resident of Jharkhand, joined the team working in the army
Michael Kindo was born in the village of Baighama in Kurdeg block of Simdega district of Jharkhand. He reached the Indian team working in the army. After retiring from the army, he used to give hockey training in SAIL Rourkela. Many players who have taken training from him here have made a good mark at the national level.
