Coupon controversy has now started in the middle of assembly elections in Bengal. After the third phase of voting on Tuesday, the Trinamool and the Left alleged that the BJP was distributing coupons worth one thousand to buy the support of the people. However, the BJP has denied these allegations.
In Bengal on Tuesday, 77.68% of the voting took place on 31 seats of the third phase till the end of polling. During this period, incidents like clashes, stone-pelting and attacks on candidates came out among the Trinamool-BJP workers.
Trinamool claims – coupons distributed for Modi’s rally
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra tweeted about these coupons. He said, ‘Modi is reaching home like this. There is an appeal to the Election Commission to take action on it and not let it go like this. The Trinamool and the Left say that the BJP is pulling people into its court with a coupon of one thousand. Both parties said that this amount has been given to attend Modi’s rally in Jionagar on April 1. Along with this, these coupons have been distributed to vote in favor of BJP.
Villagers were quoted in the Telegraph India report as saying that the coupons were distributed to attend Modi’s rally. It was promised that a gift would definitely be given to the villagers through coupons.
BJP’s cleanliness – not a thousand coupons, receipt of donations
According to reports, coupons were seen in the hands of BJP supporters at Raidighi in South 24 Parganas. There is a mention of one thousand rupees in it and there is a photo of Modi. The BJP said that it is not a coupon, but a receipt of the donation which the supporters have given. The BJP said that donations were collected to hold a meeting in Jionagar and a receipt was given for the donation made in it.
Party trapped by BJP candidate’s statements
BJP candidate from Rayadighi, Shantanu Bapuli made different statements. First he said that this is not a coupon from which cash can be obtained. Later he said that through this, the transportation of those who came to Modi’s rally was paid. For example, if a transporter’s bill was made of 2 thousand, he took cash after showing two coupons after the rally. That is, the coupon could be cashed.
Left leader’s tour revealed
When CPM candidate Kanti Ganguly went to Raidighi, she was shown these coupons by party workers. He told that Trinamool workers have got similar coupons. This coupon mentions Modi and one thousand rupees, but words like Chanda or Donation are not written anywhere. These have been printed by the Mathurapur Organizing District Committee of the BJP. Kanti Ganguly said that BJP has started this wrong trend, but people have turned down this offer.
