Apart from government claims, some villages in Kokernag tehsil, about 100 km from Srinagar, have not received electricity till date. There are some villages including Phatan, Kulpora, Lisso Branard, Halaan Gujarabasti where people burn small wood for lighting which is called ‘Lish’ here. An elderly Fattan said, “People hesitate to marry a daughter here.” Who would want their daughter to go to a village where there was no electricity.
